I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Sunday, June 19

Early Sunday morning, after we finished the RC display setup, Sonny Lewis and I decided to walk around the apron to see what aircraft were still present. Several of the core air show aircraft were still on the apron, but others were missing.

On our walk, we were lucky to find Mark Peterson getting ready for the first flight of his Alpha Jet. While Sonny assisted the crew in moving the jet closer to the taxiway, I documented the flight preparation with my camera.

Later, we watched as aircraft were moved into the apron's "Hot Zone", including aircraft that had been in hangars overnight.

As usual at the airshow, there were many opportunities to learn. Rene Price discussed his aircraft with members of the Tumwater fire department. The army demonstrated the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS). Airshow participants were able to learn about RC quadcopters (drones) and fly them on a flight simulator. At the same time, some lucky persons managed to take a ride on a DHC-2 Beaver or a T-6 Texan.

Unlike Saturday, there was sunshine on Sunday. A large crowd began to assemble for the opening ceremonies.

The opening ceremonies began with Posting of Colors.

Bell UH-1H Iroquois (Huey) Restoration Display

While at the air show, a fellow RC club member showed me a UH-1H helicopter that was on display. He is a member of the Vietnahm Helicopter Pilots Association and participates in the helicopter's restoration. In the "Day One" gallery, you can see Mike sitting in the left seat as he did many years ago.

About the Images

The images were taken with a Canon Rebel T3i. I used Canon EF 100mm macro, EFS 60mm macro, and EFS 18-55mm lenses for the images. All images received simple processing in Photoshop and were saved as low-resolution JPEG images that were optimized for the Web.
